Data consulting
OXFORD RAG is Oxford Intelligence’s data consulting practice. We help teams decide what evidence they need, assess whether public sources can supply it, and turn the results into a comparison they can use.
What you can commission
A project can start with a single question. Tell us who will use the findings and which decision they need to make. We can scope an initial source assessment on its own or agree a sequence that includes data collection and interpretation.
| Consulting scope | Work involved | Possible deliverable |
|---|---|---|
| Research design | Define the decision, unit of analysis, time period and exclusions. Work through sample records to expose ambiguous definitions. | A research brief, field dictionary and acceptance criteria. |
| Source assessment | Check a sample of sources for coverage, publication dates, access conditions and comparability. Identify fields that need a different source or a narrower scope. | A source register and a feasibility assessment with the main coverage gaps. |
| Commissioned research | Collect the agreed fields, resolve repeated records and attach source references. Keep unknown values visible for review. | An evidence table in CSV or Excel, source references and a list of exceptions. |
| Interpretation | Group records around the original decision and examine where differences in definitions or missing values affect the comparison. | A findings memo explaining supported conclusions, limits and questions for follow-up. |
Example engagement: selecting sensor models for a shortlist
This illustrative brief starts with a purchasing team asking which industrial temperature sensors can operate continuously at 100 °C. Its immediate decision is which models deserve a closer technical review.
Define a comparable record
Agree on one row per current model and variant. Specify the temperature unit and distinguish the sensor’s measuring range from the ambient conditions its electronics can withstand. A product may meet one requirement and fail the other.
Test the sources before scaling up
Read a few manufacturer datasheets together and check whether each identifies both ranges, the model code and any restrictions. If key values appear only in supplier correspondence, the team can narrow the brief or arrange access before committing to the full collection.
Show what the evidence supports
The proposed workbook would separate the two temperature ranges, record the datasheet revision and keep a link to the source. A short memo would identify models meeting the agreed criteria and list unresolved variants for supplier follow-up. The purchasing team retains the final specification decision.
Choose a consultation or a dataset quote
Choose a consultation if you need to define the question, test source coverage or interpret the findings. After your enquiry, we agree the work, deliverables, fee and timing before the engagement starts. An enquiry creates no charge.
Request a standard dataset if you already know your columns, target record count and output format. Upload a template to receive an automated tax-inclusive USD quote and estimated delivery window. The quote covers the specified data order; advisory work is scoped separately.
