What is RAG
RAG?
RAG stands for Raise and Give, and it's the charitable fundraising arm of the Oxford University Student Union.
For decades, it's been organising fun, crazy and random events and projects with the simple aim of raising money for charity. In each of the three terms, the RAG officers from each common room select charities to support, and at the end of the year, all the funds raised are split between the chosen charities. Any member of the University can nominate a charity.
RAG has something for everyone - simple bar crawls, to daredevil skydives; Mr/Miss Oxford, to poker nights; RAG Blind Date, to Oxford's Talent Show. Whether you've only got the time it takes to drop 10p into one of our street collections, or the dedication required to help organise your very own event, you'd fit in!
For a taster of the kinds of events we do, take a look at our events page, as well as the online termplanner.
The Exec?
RAG is overseen by the OUSU Vice-President (Charities & Community), currently, who chairs the RAG Exec Committee. The Exec is elected early in Michaelmas of every year, and serves for a year. They organise most of the university-wide RAG events through the year, and provide support to the common room RAG reps.
The Reps?
The RAG Reps are RAG's indispensable connection with students. Without them, not much would happen! They keep the lines of communication between the Exec and the colleges open, provide feedback on events, organise their own college events, and form the backbone of the OUSU Charities Committee.
The Committee?
The Charities Committee is made up of the common room RAG reps, the RAG Exec, and also any student who wants to turn up! It's completely open to everyone who wants to contribute, or just see what goes on, even if they've never had anything to do with RAG before. Charities Committee is where all the big decisions get made, ideas get floated, plans get put into place. The committee also has a super social scene with events each term.
The committee meets at 5pm in the OUSU offices every Monday of term ANYONE FROM THE UNIVERSITY IS INVITED.
The OUSU offices are situated opposite the Westgate Centre. OUSU Map
